DESCRIPTION:Waubun\, Minnesota.\n$100\, Application deadline is March 10th.\nThe Wild Food Summit is a multi-day\, hands-on\, wild food teach-in involving edible wild plant identification\, harvesting and preparation. With the guidance of skilled practitioners\, participants forage for food and prepare meals and learn all kinds of skills in the process. \nLearn about\, gather and help prepare wild foods in an outdoor encampment with access to many diverse habitats. Eat a mix of wild and conventional foods. \nNative and modern traditions are shared. Also discussed are the role these foods can play in a healthy diet and lifestyle. There are many plants other than wild rice and maple syrup that were once integral to native peoples’ diets. Learn about many important plants\, how they were traditionally processed\, and how they can be used today. \nThis is an all outdoor event where participants stay in tents or trailers for three nights and four days. Wild foods are gathered from the local surroundings or are brought in by wild harvesters and hunters. Foods are prepared on site over open fires\, using propane stoves\, or in cooking pits. \n\nApplication Process\nAll potential participants must go through an application process. Applications are reviewed by a committee and will be evaluated based on their potential contribution to the event and what they want to learn. Everyone is expected to share their knowledge\, help facilitate the event\, and\, of course\, learn. To submit an application for 2016\, go here. \nWhat is Provided\nTraining\, hands-on experiences\, field trips\, meals\, and camping space. The location offers primitive camping. Please bring your own drinking water; they have tent sites and port-a-potties. RVs are welcome\, but there is NO electricity or running water.
