How Do I Know if a Workshop is Full Before Signing Up?

As soon as a workshop fills, we post that at our web site. So if it does not say full, you can still register. Make sure you refresh or reload the page in case your browser displays the page from the last time you visited rather than the latest update. If a workshop fills while your registration is in the mail, we will put you on a waiting list if it is at all possible. If not, we will contact you to ask if you want to move to another workshop, or have us shred your check.

I Am on Your E-List, Why am I not Getting E-mails From You?

We only send e-mail updates to people who request to be on our lists and those who take workshops from us. Anyone can request to be off the list at any time.
The following services, without justification, often label us as spam, block us, or put us on black-lists: Outlook, Earthlink, Teleport, Mindspring, PeoplePC, Juno, Netzero, corporate e-mail systems, academic e-mail systems.
Yahoo, msn, and hotmail work fine if not associated with Outlook. If you use Outlook, put us on its white or safe list or you may never hear from us. In fact, if you use any of these providers, it would be safer to put us on their white or safe list.
Gmail seems the best for routine communications.
Most corporations and educational institutions (.edu), automatically filter out any bulk e-mails even if the recipient wants e-mails from us. They assume any bulk e-mail is spam. So it is better for us to have a personal e-mail rather than a corporate, business, or educational one.

Why do You Need Registration Information Beyond Just My E-mail?

Our business certification and insurance require that we have certain contact information of our clients.
Our contact database is organized by name and location. Accuracy in that allows us to communicate with you about workshops and distinguish you from others who may have the same name. Location also clarifies if you are local vs regional vs long distance so we don’t send you more e-mails than are appropriate. If you live in Portland, for instance, you don’t need to get an extra e-mail about us speaking at a conference in North Carolina.
The cell phone number is only for emergencies, last minute changes in workshops you signed up for, or if we need clarification from you about something. For instance, if your email gets rejected, we need to find out why. We never market or call you to sell you anything.

I Don’t Have a Printer, So Cannot Print Out Your Forms.

There are several ways to send us this information.
1. If you know how, send us PDFs or JPGs of the forms filled out. Waivers require a real signature, not a typed one.
2. Just write the information the registration form is asking for on a piece of paper or type the info directly into an e-mail. The registration form itself is only a guide. This is what the form is asking for:

Names & Ages of participants:
Address:
Cell phone number that you carry:
E-mail address:
Workshops you are paying for:
What you are paying per person/child:

We bring waivers to every workshop, so you can sign one there.

As long as we have current contact information and a waiver on file for each year, you can just send a check with a hand written note about what you are paying for to sign up for additional workshops.

I Don’t Have a Checking Account. How Can I Pay to Reserve a Space?

There are several ways to pay.
1. Any bank or credit union can write a check for you or create a money order. If you have an account, they may offer a certain amount of checks for free each month.
2. The following institutions can create a money order for a small fee (Prices as of 4/2022):
— The US Post Office ($1.25)
— Fred Meyers or any Kroger store (69¢ if you have a shoppers card)
— Western Union ($1.50)
— Walmart ($1)
— 7-Eleven Marts (Charge up to 3% of the amount)
3. If you live close by, you can hand deliver your registration and pay cash. Our address is: 422 SE 49th Ave, Portland, OR 97215 (between Burnside & Stark). To do so, put your registration in a sealed envelope with “John” or “Wild Food Adventures” written on it and drop it in our mailbox any time of day or night. If you want to hand deliver it, you will need to make an appointment. If you make an appointment, consider buying a signed copy of John’s book at the same time.
4. PayPal. You must send us your registration materials first, then we can send you the PayPal info. You will have to add 5% on to your total to cover PayPal’s fees to us.

Where Can I Buy your Book?

Edible Wild Plants: Wild Foods From Dirt to Plate, is available where all books are sold: Bookstores, online, etc. If you want to buy directly from me and/or get a signed copy, they are available for sale after every workshop. If you make an appointment, you can pick one up from Wild Food Adventures: 422 SE 49th Ave, Portland, OR 97215, most afternoons. We don’t mail them out ourselves because the cost is too high.

I’m Writing a Paper, Can You Help?

Buy Edible Wild Plants: Wild Foods From Dirt to Plate and read section 1. It is designed to define the field, give perspective and help people learn about wild foods. There is an electronic version available if you need it right away. Interested in specific plants? – purchase books in our Resources section and use them cumulatively like an encyclopedia. You can also search the web and see what it says, but there is a lot of misinformation mixed with the good. If books and the web are not enough, you can hire us for consulting. Check our services page.

Do You Answer Questions About Wild foods?

We do consulting. it is a fee-based service. Check out services page.

How Do I Find Wild Food Experts/Instructors in My Area?

Wild Food Adventures can provide you with your learning needs if you are willing to travel to the Pacific Northwest. We are centered in Portland Oregon and typically offer events within a 2-hour drive of Portland. You can find potential instructors elsewhere at Greene Dean’s Wild Food Instructors Site. There is no guarantee that anyone you find listed has any expertise, experience, or wisdom about wild foods at Greene Dean’s site. Anyone can ask to be listed. So if you find someone listed, do some homework about the person or institution before contacting them.
